Post 0: A Little Bit About Myself

Coming from a small state like New Hampshire, going to one of the most highly regarded universities in the world was a challenging experience. As a graduate from Tufts University, I was able to find a job as a technical support specialist at an insurance company with an office across the street from what was my elementary school.

Being my first office job, there was a lot to learn about the systems used in the company; how to handle calls from insurance agents, employees, and customers; and I have also had the opportunity to take on some side projects. This includes requesting for and taking a class in C#, editing macros in Visual Basic for Microsoft Excel, and developing testing plans for upgrades to some of the company's technologies.

My greatest personal challenge at work came when we went from three specialists down to just myself in the course of one weekend. I had been expecting one to leave, as he had given his two weeks notice, but when both were gone the following Monday, I learned to juggle the responsibilities of three employees with some help from my supervisor. This was during a time where the company had rolled out a new website that was experiencing many bugs, and also during a time when I was still learning the position, so I had to adapt quickly to handle the demands of the position. I was able to do that successfully, and when two other specialists were hired, I was able to teach them what I had learned.

This has been a rewarding year, but I am ready to take the next step in my career and land a position in software development. I aspire to become a game developer, so I have been working to build a portfolio by taking an online course in game development, and along with that will come this blog.

My goal right now is to have at least one update to this blog a week with information about the industry, updates on the progress I am making in my current position and in my classes, and other work experiences that will demonstrate my level of commitment and contribution to my work in this field.

Thank you for taking the time to read this introductory post. I am looking to have more content coming soon, and hope to see you next Sunday for the next blog posting.
